Advent & Christmas Concert at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, New Brunswick, NJ 2007

NJ CHOIRS SING TOGETHER FOR BENEFIT

The Metuchen Diocesan Chamber Choir and Caritas Chamber Chorale (www.caritaschamberchorale.org) will present a combined concert of unaccompanied sacred choral music entitled “Singing Christ – In Splendid, Varied Ways.”  The concert will present seven tenets of faith, expressed in various ways and includes works for double and multi-part choir.

The program is scheduled at three different venues: St. Bernard Church, 500 Rt. 22 East, Bridgewater, on Saturday, June 21 at 8pm; St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, 32 Elm Avenue, Metuchen on Sunday June 22 at 8pm; and Sacred Heart Church, 56 Throop Avenue, New Brunswick on Sunday, June 29 at 8pm.
The concerts are open to the public.  A freewill offering will be accepted with all proceeds going to the Adorno Fathers’ St. Francis Carraciolo Mission  in the Democratic Republic of Congo Africa.

This concert’s repertoire consists of diverse music including Benjamin Britten’s “A Hymn to the Virgin” and Johann Pachelbel’s “Magnificat,” both for double choir. The Christmas motet “O magnum mysterium” and “Today the Virgin” by the celebrated contemporary composers Morten Lauridsen and John Tavener, respectively, are included in the section on Incarnation. Commissioned for this concert series and written by Caritas Chamber Chorale’s Composer in Residence, Wayne Dietterick, “Though the Fig Tree Does Not Blossom” will be premiered in the section on Trust.

The Metuchen Diocesan Chamber Choir and Caritas Chamber Chorale were asked by the National Pastoral Musicians to present this concert for the NPM Eastern Region Convention in New Brunswick which will be held from June 30 to July 3 of 2008. For more information on the Convention visit: www.npm.org.  Since the convention concert, to be held on Tuesday, July 1, is not open to the public, these concerts are presented for the benefit of the community and the groups’ respective charities.

The Diocesan Chamber Choir was formed in 2001 by Thomas DeLessio to raise hearts and minds to God through song in both diocesan liturgies and parish concerts. Founded by Barbara Sanderman in 2005, Caritas Chamber Chorale is dedicated to promoting the art of sacred choral music and serving those in need around the world.  The choirs are delighted to be collaborating on this music.

For more information email Barbara Sanderman at director@caritaschamberchorale.org.
